2016 VW Amarok is the latest version of VW’s traditional body-on-frame truck built for the first time back in 2010. Previous model received updates for new model year, so we don’t expect much from the upcoming 2016 model. New generation will probably come a year later, for 2017, or even 2018 model year. Amarok is no so well-known in the US, since German automaker hasn’t made it available for this market Currently the Amarok is sold in South America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Europe. There were no indications from VW about broadening of the market for this great performer.
2016 VW Amarok DESIGN SPECS
The 2016 VW Amarok comes available in three body versions, including Single Cab, Cab Chassis and Dual Cab. All of them feature characteristic VW design. It includes upright front end, sharp headlights, and twin-slated grille. Completely three trim levels are available, including Trendline, Highline and Ultimate for each body type. Its wheel size goes from 16- to 19-inches depending on trim.
Even the base trim of the model is highly equipped. It offers multiple convenience and comfort features, including front and rear parking sensors, lumbar support on the front seats, latest sound systems, and satellite navigation, as well as rear-view camera and cruise control. Upper trim get leather upholstery, rain sensing wipers and automatic headlights.
Volkswagen also released few special editions, so we can expect something similar for 2016 VW Amarok. Still, there is no much info regarding the model’s specs, considering it is still too early.
2016 VW Amarok ENGINE SPECS
Under the hood of the 2016 VW Amarok will be placed the same engine which currently runs the model. It is a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, which comes available in few states of tune. In its basic for it delivers 140 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Its second version delivers 180 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Combined with automatic transmission, this second version delivers slightly more torque, 410 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission choices include 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard drive configuration, while all-wheel drive is available as optional. Also VW offers two modes of AWD. Selectable, available for both transmissions and 4Motion permanent, available only for automatic.
2016 VW Amarok PRICE AND RELEASE DATE
Pricing specs of the model will be revealed later on, while release date is not expected before late this year. Base price of the model should stay quite the same as for the current model, which starts slightly under $30,000.
