Amazing pick-up truck from one of the largest worldwide companies is fully redesigned for new model year. 2016 Toyota Tacoma comes with changes made on its styling and performance. Here are its most important specs:
2016 Toyota Tacoma CHANGES
New Tacoma keeps its both body styles, including extended access and crew cab. Platform of the model stayed the same, but Japanese engineers decided to go with slightly different material mix. In its construction more high-strength steel is used, in order to achieve better rigidity. Besides that, ultra high-strength steel is used via stamping method, in order to get the stiffness but to save weight.
Exterior styling changes are pretty extensive. With tough competitors on the market, such as Chevrolet and GMC trucks, Toyota needed to modernize Tacoma’s appearance. It is more angular than before, with more rugged and bigger front fascia. Grille of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is new hexagonal one, and it additionally adds to the rough and truck-like appearance of the model.
Inside, Toyota incorporated various tech additions and improvements. Depending on trim levels, Tacoma received damped tailgate opening and a household-style power outlet in the bed. Options will include LED running lights, push-button start, two-zone automatic A/C, leather upholstery, a sunroof, blind spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alert.
2016 Toyota Tacoma ENGINES
Starting with 2016 Tacoma, these pick-up trucks will be run by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine as standard. Even though Toyota didn’t specify the output of the familiar engine, it will stay either the same or close to today’s 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes paired with a 5-speed transmission as standard while 6-speed automatic comes as optional.
Second engine is a new 3.5-liter V6, which replaces the current 4.0-liter V6. The output is not mentioned, but the engine will feature optimized fuel injection and an Atkinson power cycle which will help the fuel economy of the 2016 Tacoma truck. Both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions will be available for the V6 unit.
For the Tacoma TRD performance Toyota offers multi-terrain system, driver-selectable “crawl mode” limited-slip differential and locking rear differential. All these will significantly help the performance of the TRD truck on different surfaces. It will also improve its maneuverability and capability on the trail.
