Mid-size pickup truck that goes by the name Navara in Europe and several other markets has been redesigned for 2014 model year. 2016 Nissan Frontier, US version of the truck should follow it footsteps and get an upgrade and new generation starting with this model year. New Frontier should bring extensive changes, which will include new design and performance specs of the model. Even though there is no much information about new Frontier, some sources revealed what we can expect from it, and even Nissan released a teaser of this great truck.
2016 Nissan Frontier CHANGES
When it comes to exterior of the 2016 Nissan Frontier, Japanese automaker will make interesting changes. Body lines of the Frontier are softer now, more curvaceous, more modern, giving the truck completely new look. The front end is designed in a more aggressive way, giving it edgy feel. On the rear end, new Frontier features more pronounced kink in the window. LED running lights are also part of the standard features.
Following the new look of the exterior, and automotive trends, Frontier’s interior is significantly improved. Better design and much higher quality materials. Steering wheel is 3-spoke multi-functioning, and on the center of the dash is placed a mounted touchscreen. Features list is also extended, with new ones added and old ones upgraded. Push-button ignition, hill-start assist, hill-descent control and electronic driver aids are all part of standard equipment for the 2016 Nissan Frontier.
2016 Nissan Frontier ENGINE SPECS
Even though there is precise info about 2016 Nissan Frontier engines, it is believed that powertrains will be carried over from Navara. That means two engine options, including petrol and diesel 4-cylinder engines. This means great fuel economy for Frontier buyers.
Petrol engine is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, and it will be the base engine. Its output is believed to be higher than previously rated 152 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque.
Diesel unit is a 2.5-liter turbodiesel 4-cylinder which will be available with two states of tune:
- 161hp and 297 lb-ft of torque
- 188hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.
There are some rumors that Nissan will not give up on V6 unit for its upcoming Frontier pickup. However, the current 4.0-liter V6 will probably be replaced. Another rumor is that 2.8-liter Cummins I-4 turbo-diesel , presented at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show for Frontier Concept. Transmission choices will include 7-speed automatic transmission and 6-speed manual. Fuel economy rates are known yet, but improvements are expected for each engine.
2016 Nissan Frontier PRICE AND RELEASE DATE
Pricing specs will be available close to 2016 Nissan Frontier release date, which is expected by the end of this year, 2015. Base price is estimated to range between $18,000 and $20,000.
