2016 Mitsubishi GR-HEV SPECS

Design of the new 2016 Mitsubishi GR-HEV is similar to the one we saw in Triton’s redesign. This hybrid pickup looks futuristic, with grille and headlight joined into one line. With sleek lines, and very few cuts on the body, Mitsubishi designers decided to make visual illusion with chrome-derived details on the front, hood, and roof line. Big wheels seen on the Concept will be slightly smaller for the production version, mainly to reduce cost, and create competitive price for the all-new truck.

On the inside, we can expect high luxury, and same minimalistic style to follow the exterior. Dashboard will feature large touchscreen display probably with latest infotainment system. Features which will be offered are still not known, but we can expect top quality of materials and fine design lines.

2016 Mitsubishi GR-HEV POWERTRAIN

The powertrain of the 2016 Mitsubishi GR-HEV will be combination of diesel engine, electric motor and battery pack. Diesel unit is expected to be a 2.5-liter unit. The power will be transmitted via some automatic transmission, although it is unclear how many speeds it will have.

Mitsubishi officials did reveal that the model will come with Super All-Wheel System, which includes 4 drive modes, which are suitable for every terrain. Fuel economy of the model is said to be around 41 mpg, while its CO2 emissions are expected to be 149 g/km.

The reason why Mitsubishi decided to choose hybrid powertrain, is, among other, the price. According to automaker’s officials, hybrid system is more economical than all-electric or plug-in hybrid variant.

The GR-HEV will have body-on-frame construction which will maximize its durability. Off-road capabilities of the model will be just as good as for the Triton pickup, regardless of the  hybrid powertrain.

2016 Mitsubishi GR-HEV Side

Release date of the model will not be before early next year. Even though there were some indication that we might see the model as early as late this year, seems like those prediction were too optimistic. According to some sources, we might even have to wait late 2016, and welcome the model’s launch for 2017 MY. Pricing is not revealed, but according to 2016 Mitsubishi GR-HEV specs, and prices of the pickups from its range, we don’t expect it to start before $50,000.
